Aaron Rose, Sister Corita, Monster Children Gallery, 16 - 19 January 2008. |
![]() We went and saw a play and sat behind Cate Blanchett and her husband. It was so difficult to keep our cool around her. I don't know how I resisted asking her for a photograph. |
![]() Then the next day on the way to Aaron's show I saw this sign. |
![]() The ghost of Sister Corita painted signs on the Monster Children gallery wall. |
![]() I liked that one in the two frames. |
![]() Once they are sold they are gone. No reprints |
![]() A video about Sister Corita played in the gallery. |
![]() Beer, bottle. |
![]() Fanning out. |
![]() The next day I went to a meeting about a group show in Parramatta. These were the images selected to be in the show. The show will open in February. |
![]() Then I went and saw 8-12 year old kids giving adults haircuts. |
![]() It was a blast. Excellent vibes. I left smiling. |
![]() A car, train ride and 1.5 hours later I'm back in the city to try and see the world premiere of the Beautiful Losers documentary. My name's not on the guess list but Chris Searl kindly ads it to the list even though I know somebody might be sitting on the floor because of it. Thanks Chris, you are awesome. |
![]() Before the show I asked Aaron what he did the previous night. He said what he wanted to do was walk around Refern at night in the rain (wtf!!). Refern is one of the most dangerous inner city suburbs in Sydney. It's a place most people try to avoid during the day. Aaron wanted to check it out at night, in the rain. |
![]() The tiny theatre only sits about 70 people. This photo was taken from the back-row believe it or not. Joe and Aaron give a sort introduction. This is when Aaron tells us it's the film's world premiere and for the next hour-and-a-half, I feel like this little theatre in Sydney is the center of the universe. I can't remember the last time I felt so spoilt and privileged. To be the firsts to see our generation's Style Wars...free. Thanks Aaron and Monster Children. |
![]() Mike O'Meally's reaction after the film, priceless. |
![]() Quick exit (itallics). |
![]() After the film I met up with some friends to see some fireworks on the water. |
![]() We stood in the rain for an hour to see fire. |
![]() The next day, I'm back at Monster Children gallery to hear Aaron talk about all things Sister Corita. The Brillo boxes now had bricks in them and were transformed into chairs. |
![]() Fans arrived early. |
![]() Natalie. |
![]() Using his laptop and projecting images on to the TV screen, for over two hours Aaron gives us the load-down on Sister Corita's work, Alleged, Beautiful Losers and everything else. Halfway through I felt the urge to call all my friends to tell them to come listen. I wasn't expecting such a huge presentation. I felt like I should be paying him for his time. Privileged. |
![]() The gallery is filled up. People had to sit on the stairs out the gallery. |
![]() An epic couple of days. I feel like lying down and not speaking to anybody for a few days to recover. Thanks Kasia, Joe, Aaron and Monster Children for keeping the creative spark alive (this photo would have been better if I had taken two steps to the right). |
